Dr. Joel Shertok is a Chemical Engineering and Materials Consultant specializing in new product development, commercial manufacturing, and chemical process optimization. With more than 50 years of experience across chemical, biotech, advanced materials, and industrial systems, he has helped companies scale technologies from lab and pilot operations into profitable commercial production.
His expertise spans specialty chemicals, carbon fiber composites, biotech-based nutritionals, membrane filtration, ion exchange, nanotechnology, biofuels, and lithium battery electrolytes. Throughout his career, Dr. Shertok has worked with startups and established companies to improve yield, reduce bottlenecks, optimize processes, and accelerate commercialization.
Dr. Shertok has served as an Entrepreneur In Residence for New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, advising emerging biotech and chemical companies on commercialization strategies. He has also supported projects involving machine learning for process optimization, advanced filtration technologies, and sustainable energy solutions.
He earned his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Princeton University and his B.E. in Chemical Engineering from Cooper Union. Dr. Shertok holds numerous patents across purification and filtration technologies and previously served as a Visiting Scholar at Rochester Institute of Technology.
